I’m Emma Demar, LCSW, owner and therapist at TBD. I have over seven years of experience working in private practice with individuals like you who are looking to do the inner work to enhance their life. Some of my patients struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma or eating disorders, but others are feeling lost, lonely, or unfulfilled and need someone to talk to. And despite the fact that therapy is, of course, a privilege and not a requirement, I strongly believe that anyone that has access to it could benefit from doing this work.
I decided to become a therapist when I was sitting in my own therapist’s office in high school amidst recovery for my Eating Disorder and my therapist told me she used to have an ED herself. It was a moment I truly felt seen and less alone, and I realized the power of holding space and meeting someone where they are at. Sometimes, it really is just the act of being witnessed in your pain that is incredibly transformative. But, of course, there is so much more to it than that.
I specialize in Eating Disorders, anxiety, self-confidence, relationship dynamics, life transitions, pregnancy and postpartum, and depression, although I work with many related presenting problems as well. I am trained in psychodynamic, CBT, and DBT and I am currently pursuing my RO-DBT training. I plan to get trained next in the Enneagram.
A few fun facts: I’m the author of “The Truth Teller: The Truth Behind Our Masks,” I’m the host of “The Truth Teller” podcast, I was on Gossip Girl (season 1, pink minion), I’m an avid fan and student of the Enneagram, and I’m a new mom!
I’m so glad you found me here, and I look forward to hopefully working together.
